Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Gary Dicker hopes his performances this season will earn him a senior call-up for Republic of Ireland.

The 25-year-old has not been capped above Under 21 level but was thought to be close to selection last season before a fractured fibula, sustained last October, scuppered his chances.

However, the box-to-box midfielder proved his fitness after returning to action for Brighton in April now has international ambitions.

"I'd love to be in with a shout of a national call-up," he told Sky Sports. "But you've got to be doing well for your club on a regular basis first and foremost.

"At the start of the year, I did have dreams and ambitions of playing for my country. But the injury put a stop to that really and I was glued to the TV instead this summer watching how the boys got on at Euro 2012.

"It is everybody's dream to play for their country and hopefully one day I will be able to make that come true. But I'm just concentrating on keeping fit and staying in the Brighton team at the moment."
