Salomon Kalou has vowed to keep working hard in an effort to win over the Lille fans and has been backed by boss Rudi Garcia.

The former Chelsea forward has failed to impress since making the move to France this summer, although his efforts have not been helped by an injury.

Some supporters have vented their frustration with Kalou's performances and he insists he is striving to reach his top form and show what he can do.

"I am going to fight and do everything I can to please my team and the fans," he said.

"I am working hard to get back to my best, I just came back from an injury and it is not easy.

"But the fans expect more from me, so I need to please them."

Garcia has no doubt that Kalou will improve, although he recognises that it can take time following fitness problems.

"It is always hard when you come from injury," he told the French press. "In the first game back you are fresh but in the second you become tired after 50 minutes.

"He will get better."
