Ally McCoist admits to casting an envious eye towards the Nou Camp as he prepares his side to face Clyde while Celtic take on Barcelona in the Champions League.

But the Rangers manager is confident his third division leaders will once again be mixing it with Europe's elite before too long.

Despite chief executive Charles Green insisting Rangers are 'in no hurry to return to the SPL' McCoist knows the only route back to continental football is through the top flight.

"I'll be honest with you, I know where I would rather be tonight and that is at the Nou Camp against Barcelona," he told Sky Sports News.

"But we are where we are. I wish them well but we will be back there soon, hopefully sooner rather than later. It will be a tough task. Everyone wants to play at the top level and we are no different.

"Hopefully we can get back to the Champions League as that is where we want to be and where our fans want us to be."

On Green's stance over the SPL, McCoist said: "We have been at cross purposes before and we will be again.

"Charles and I have a really healthy working relationship. But whatever it takes to get back playing European football we need to get there. That is the most important thing for the club and fans.

"We play Clyde this weekend and we have to make sure that we build on the result against Queen's Park last Saturday.

"That victory took us to the top of the table and now we have to make sure our away results match those at home."
