Hamburg defender Michael Mancienne is hoping to get an England call-up if he can continue his good form.

The former Chelsea man moved to the Bundesliga in the summer of 2011 and is now impressing as a central defender for HSV.

With John Terry and Rio Ferdinand no longer in the reckoning for the national team, Mancienne believes there may be an opening in Roy Hodgson's squad.

"If I concentrate on doing my job with Hamburg maybe I will get a call."

"I would love to play for England and hopefully my chances have improved with John and Rio Ferdinand out of the picture," he told the Sunday Express.

"They are both great players but if I concentrate on doing my job with Hamburg maybe I'll get a call.

"It's probably a bit harder playing abroad but if I'm playing well and the team is doing well it shouldn't really affect my chances."

The 24-year-old's career had stalled at Stamford Bridge but he has found life on and off the field to his liking in Germany.

"I'm a technical players and the game here as suited me," he added.

"In fact, I have improved as a person and a player. Everybody has helped me and I can honestly say I'm happy here."
