Fulham match-winner Chris Baird could not hide his delight after scoring six minutes from time to sink Aston Villa at Craven Cottage.

The Northern Ireland defender bagged only his third goal for the club on his 150th appearance to secure all three Premier League points.

Baird was alert as he got a deft touch to John Arne Riise's near-post corner to beat goalkeeper Brad Guzan and deny Villa a point.

And he told Sky Sports: "It's fantastic. Really chuffed to get the goal for myself but obviously for the team as well as a vital three points for us.

"It was a hard game because we didn't play well, but at the end of the day it was three points.

There was quite a celebration after the experienced player bagged the all-important goal in front of the home fans.

"It was just frustrating for myself on a personal note and actually when I scored it all came out and we held on to eventually get the win," he added.

"I like doing that run (at the front post for the goal) usually for the header at the near post but Johnny Riise miss-hit his corner. But like I say, I got across and got the vital touch, so all good."
