Blackburn Rovers caretaker manager Eric Black has revealed David Goodwillie will be ineligible to play for the club until January.

Goodwillie returned early from a loan spell at Crystal Palace this week having failed to settle in London.

But under the terms of that deal, the Scottish striker cannot play for Rovers or any other club until the transfer window reopens.

Black admits the situation is not ideal and he will now concentrate on keeping Goodwillie's fitness levels high until the New Year.

"He can't go back out," Black explained. "He's back here, he'll train and we'll try and get one or two behind-closed-doors games for him. But he can't play officially.

"We'd love to have David Goodwillie fit and contributing but that's the way it's worked out and both clubs are comfortable with that."
