Sky Sports understands striker Akpo Sodje has agreed a new one-month deal at Preston North End.

Striker to stay on at Deepdale for a further month

Sky Sports understands striker Akpo Sodje has agreed a new one-month deal at Preston North End. Sodje, who secured an initial one-month deal at North End after impressing on trial in pre-season, sees his current deal expire after this weekend's game with MK Dons on Sunday. However, Preston have moved to offer the in-form forward, who has scored seven goals this season, a new one-month deal. Sodje's agent, Jonathan Hope, confirmed the 32-year-old had agreed to sign an extension for a further month and he cleared up reports over why Sodje was only being offered month-to-month contracts because of fitness issues saying the latest injury sustained by Sodje was picked up in boxing sessions put on by Preston boss Graham Westley. "We have agreed a further month's extension with Preston North End and talks went smoothly," Hope told skysports.com. "Obviously a longer deal would have been better for us but Preston want a further month and this was decided by Sodje being out for 10 days with an injury caused during boxing training in the club. "His knee is holding up very well and Graham [Westley] is managing that successfully. "I have had some interaction with the fans online and I am delighted by how loved Akpo is with the supporters and very humbled with their kind words.

Attention

"Sodje is gathering a lot of attention with his prolific scoring record and I am not surprised with the amount of enquiries that have been made about him. "He is a Preston player and is loving life at Preston and that is what matters. "Hopefully the long term future will be secured sooner rather than later. My sincere thanks go to the chairman and manager and most importantly the fans."
