Rotherham assistant boss Paul Raynor has heaped praise on team captain Ian Sharps for his recent show of leadership.
The Millers skipper has come under fire in recent weeks but has been a key player in their improved form of late.
After an indifferent start to the season United have picked up five points from their last three games which included trips to York and Barnet.
"Some people have been having a go at Ian recently but he showed at York what he brings to us," Raynor told the Sheffield Star.
"He's never been the most cultured player but he is a straight forward central defender and a good, honest leader and he was a leader out there at York.
"They are lively in attack but Ian led us from the back, he showed what he brings to this team but we knew that anyway. Captains show the way, take the lead and I thought he did that."
