Everton boss David Moyes insists Nikica Jelavic is yet to find his best form, despite scoring a double in last weekend's win over Southampton.
The Croatian striker made a big impact on Merseyside last season following his move from Rangers and he has already netted three goals for Everton in this campaign.
But Moyes feels the hitman is not firing on all cylinders as he is still short of match fitness.
Speaking ahead of Saturday's trip to Wigan, Moyes told the club website: "I think Jelavic is one of these boys who needs to train and needs to play and you could see on Saturday after 50-55 minutes his socks were half down.
"We need to get him where we feel as if he's really ready enough for 90 minutes and we've just not been able to get that.
"He's had a couple of niggles which we've had to look after. So it's something we're aware of that maybe he can't always at the present time do the 90.
"But I'm hoping in a couple of weeks once we've got a bit more training into him he'll be there.
"The games help him as well so hopefully he might play again for Croatia and that will help him get ready for the full games."
