Southampton midfielder Jack Cork is facing another spell on the sidelines after picking up an injury on his return to action this week.

The 23-year-old was making his first appearance of the season in the Capital One Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday evening.

The former Chelsea trainee was building up his match fitness after missing the start of the current campaign with an ankle problem.

However, he limped out of the 2-0 win over the Owls in the final 10 minutes with a knee problem which scans have revealed will keep him out for at least a month.

Cork wrote on his Twitter account: "Another 4-6 weeks, with my left knee.

"Luck's just not going my way this season. Could be worse, but was so close to getting back from the ankle."
