Huddersfield boss Simon Grayson was delighted to see his players tear up the script to win 3-1 at Blackpool on Monday night.

An expectant crowd had gathered at Bloomfield Road, hoping to see the home side go top of the league with a win.

But that never looked likely as the Terriers produced an impressive attacking display, going in front through Lee Novak early on.

While Gary Taylor-Fletcher equalised, on-loan striker James Vaughan restored the visitors' lead just before the interval and then claimed a touch on Oliver Norwood's free-kick after the break.

"Nobody gave them a chance coming here as it was all about Blackpool going top or whatever but I'm very proud of what the players have done tonight."

Grayson was certainly pleased with his players' efforts against Ian Holloway's much-fancied side.

"To come here and get the result we have and play in the manner we have is obviously very delightful for everybody," he told Sky Sports after the game.

"We said to the players before the game we're on for a real tough test against a strong Blackpool team.

"And we've had to be disciplined, play from the shape, and do everything that we've worked on in the last couple of days. And obviously that plan worked.

"They've got a unity together. There's some good footballers in there and they've got a desire to succeed and a togetherness that they want to win football matches.

"Nobody gave them a chance coming here as it was all about Blackpool going top or whatever but I'm very proud of what the players have done tonight."

The win moves Huddersfield to second in the league - their highest placing this century - and Grayson now has a challenge on his hands to keep expectations at a reasonable level.

"Enjoy it because it's taken 11 years for the club to get in the Championship," added the former Leeds boss.

"But we won't be getting carried away - we've got 39 games still to go and it's a tough game every week in the Championship.

"Enjoy tonight's result but we work in the morning for a game against Watford at the weekend."
