Striker Rickie Lambert revealed his delight after his two goals helped Southampton secure their first top-flight victory of the season.
Saints came into the match at home to Aston Villa rooted to the bottom of the standings after four successive defeats and were still nursing their wounds from a 6-1 hammering at Arsenal the week before.
But the South Coast club secured three points thanks in large to their 30-year-old talisman, who netted twice and set up another in a 4-1 romp.
"Everyone knows who we've been playing," Lambert told Sky Sports.
"We're disappointed we didn't have at least three points but we weren't that far behind from where we thought we were going to be.
"We're just obviously made up we got off the mark today."
