Martinez pleased for Boselli

Latics' boss delighted with attitude of striker

Mauro Boselli: The striker played for the Wigan Under-21s on Monday

Roberto Martinez has hinted that he is ready to hand striker Mauro Boselli a chance to shine for Wigan in the next week.

The Latics face a daunting task of three games in the space of seven days, starting with the visit of Fulham to the DW Stadium on Saturday.

The 27-year-old Argentine, who spent last season on loan at his former club Estudiantes after failing to make his mark in the Premier League, has come back a different player this campaign.

After scoring in the Capital One Cup win at Nottingham Forest last month he bagged a late leveller in a dramatic 3-3 draw for Wigan's second-string at Barnsley on Monday night.

And now Martinez is ready to recall the player, most likely for the League Cup third round tie against West Ham at the Boleyn Ground.

Confidence

"What happened on Monday will obviously act as a real confidence-booster for Mauro," Martinez told the Evening Post.

"But more than that it shows you the kind of attitude he continues to show

behind the scenes.

"It would be all too easy for him to be disappointed, but all he is focused on is preparing himself if and when he is called upon.

"He knows he is going to get his chance, and he is determined to work as hard as he can in the meantime.

"Mauro came and asked me whether he could play in the Under-21s, which is a fantastic sign for me as a manager."
