West Bromwich Albion manager Steve Clarke has confirmed talks are ongoing with Jonas Olsson regarding a new contract.

Olsson has made over 140 appearances for the Baggies since joining from NEC Nijmegen in 2008, but his current deal expires at the end of this season.

Clarke is keen to retain the Sweden international for the long term and did not cash in on the centre-half during the summer transfer window.

And, after securing the future of midfielder James Morrison on a new contract, Clarke is now hoping that Olsson can be persuaded to remain at The Hawthorns.

"The club are still talking to Jonas. The chairman (Jeremy Peace) and Dan Ashworth (sporting and technical director) are in negotiations," said Clarke

"Jonas respects the fact we are keeping him for the last year of his contract, and we respect the fact he's in the last year of his contract.

"If we can find a solution, that's what we'll do, and that's what we're working to do."
