Danny Guthrie is confident of a bold showing from Reading when they welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the Madejski Stadium on Sunday.

Reading are still waiting for a first win since returning to the Premier League after following up an opening day draw against Stoke City with an entertaining defeat at Chelsea.

A trip to Sunderland was postponed and it will be over three weeks since the Royals have played in the top flight by the time Brian McDermott's side meet Spurs.

"We gave a great account of ourselves at Chelsea and, from day one, we've said it doesn't matter who we are playing, we want to win the game," Guthrie told the Slough and South Bucks Observer.

"We tried doing that at Stamford Bridge and we'll be trying again on Sunday. We're at home, it's our first game on the telly and I'm sure it will be a great occasion for everyone involved.

"It's been a long break after missing the Sunderland game and then the international break, but it is what it is.

"I don't really know if it will affect us but at least we've got time to prepare for the Spurs game."
