Bury caretaker manager Peter Shirtliff has confirmed it is "very unlikely" he will get the permanent job at Gigg Lane.

The Shakers have picked up just two points from five games after Shirtliff took the role following Richie Barker's departure for Crawley on the eve of the new season.

With Bury sitting 23rd in League One, Shirtliff admits his time is almost up in the job and he expects the club to start interviews for a new manager this week.

Shirtliff was sacked from his previous managerial role at Mansfield in December 2006.

He told Manchester Evening News: "It needs to be sorted sooner rather than later but it's very unlikely I'll get the job after two points from five games - I've been told that.

"I would have thought they would start interviewing this week."
