Burnley striker Danny Ings could be back playing in three months, the club have learned.
The 20-year-old suffered a knee injury in pre-season and was told he could face six months on the sidelines.
But after successful surgery, Burnley boss Eddie Howe revealed the forward could be back sooner.
"The tear was not as bad as we feared and the surgeon was able to do what he needed to," Howe told the club's official website.
"It (the procedure) wasn't that intrusive which reduces the (recovery) timescale.
"I am sure he will start his rehab pretty quickly now and within three months he could be back in action. It's the best outcome we could have had."
