Fernando Torres: Has set himself goal target at Chelsea this season
Fernando Torres has set himself the personal target of scoring more goals for Chelsea this season than he did in his best campaign at Liverpool.
After struggling to make an impact in his first 18 months at Stamford Bridge, the Spaniard has enjoyed a brighter start to the new season, scoring three times in his first five games.
Torres, who last week declared he was a better player and person for his nightmare start in West London, is now hopeful of beating his tally of 33 from his first campaign at Anfield.
He told the latest Chelsea Magazine: "Now I am looking for new personal targets, which is to get as many goals as possible and, hopefully, I will score more than I did in my best season at Liverpool.
"We have the squad to do that and we have five more trophies to play for, so it could be a magic season."
The arrival of talented youngster Eden Hazard from Lille this summer has played a key role in Torres' resurgence, while the striker feels the presence of Juan Mata and new-boy Oscar in Roberto Di Matteo's midfield could also be crucial this season.
He added: "I like players who can find the space behind the defenders who can find a small gap to pass the ball and put me in front of the goalkeeper.
"Juan Mata is very easy to play alongside because he has these qualities, where he finds the space behind the defenders.
"We have scored a lot of goals thanks to these kinds of passes from him. We have him, plus Eden Hazard plays there and Oscar as well. For me, it's the most important position for the team.
"The number 10 or second striker is the one who is going to make the difference, the one who is going to finish the game or change it by giving an assist or scoring a goal.
"All the great teams have a quality number 10 and we have two or three this season, so we have to exploit that."
