West Brom forward Shane Long admits he was worried when Steve Clarke was appointed as Baggies boss but his concerns have long gone. Clarke was chosen as the man to replace Roy Hodgson at The Hawthorns despite having no managerial experience. But the former Chelsea, Newcastle and Liverpool assistant has made an impressive start to his reign by picking up seven points in his first three games after Saturday's 2-0 win over Everton. Long opened the scoring at the weekend and confesses he had his doubts about the new manager. "I suppose at the back of your mind you're a bit concerned," said Long, quoted in the Daily Mirror.

Top manager

"But the second you meet him, you realise he's a top manager. "He's come in and put his stamp on everything. There's a bit of a difference from Roy and his style is about passing, passing, passing. "We pass the ball out from the back and try to pass it as much as we can. "He's quiet most of the time. He doesn't bark much, he just says what needs to be said and I think you take more in that way. "Before each game he says a few words of wisdom and that really gets us up for it and that's why we've started so well this season."
