Danny Simpson believes he should be known as 'the great survivor' after seeing out the summer transfer window on the books of Newcastle United.

The Magpies were keen to offload the full-back before Friday's deadline after seeing him reject their final offer of an improved contract.

Simpson believes he is worth more than the terms currently on the table and will not commit himself to the club until his demands are met.

The 25-year-old is, however, in no rush to leave St James' Park and is delighted to still form part of Alan Pardew's plans.

Uncertainty

Simpson said: "I'm still here. Just call me the great survivor!

"Personally, I never doubted I'd be here after the deadline despite everything that was being said.

"I've always said I'm happy here. I've got one year left on my contract, why would I want to leave a team that finished fifth last season and is in the Europa League?

"I haven't let the uncertainty unsettle me, it's just the type of person I am. I just get on with it and give 100 per cent to do my best for the team."
