Newcastle youngster Haris Vuckic has praised boss Alan Pardew for giving youth a chance at the club.
The 20-year-old joined the Premier League outfit in 2009 after being identified as a teenager with immense potential.
Vuckic was on the scoresheet for Newcastle as he notched the only goal of the game as they beat Atromitos in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
And the Slovenia international is keen to use his appearances in the cup competitions to press ahead with his claims for a starting role in the Premier League.
"Hopefully I will be fit this season and play as many games as I can," he said.
"If I don't get chances in the Premier League, maybe I can in Europe and show the manager that I can do it and get a chance in the Premier League as well.
"It's a positive thing that youngsters get a chance. That's all experience for us, playing at a high level where we can take one more step to the Premier League."
He added: "I am just going to enjoy this moment, work hard on the training ground and not think that I have already done something.
"I just need to stay on the ground and keep training."
