Sky Sports understands Manchester City are set to offload Roque Santa Cruz, with the Paraguay striker undergoing a medical at Malaga.
Santa Cruz spent last season on loan at Real Betis after falling down the pecking order at City behind the likes of Carlos Tevez, Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli.
He has made just 20 appearances for City since his £17.5million move from Blackburn in 2009, scoring just three goals.
Now he could be set to resurrect his career in Spain's Primera Liga, where he played 33 times last season with Betis.
He will also get the chance to play Champions League football, with Malaga qualifying for the group stage and being drawn with AC Milan, Zenit St Petersburg and Anderlecht.
It will also be a welcome weight off the wage bill for Roberto Mancini as he looks to recruit five new players on deadline day.
