Hoffenheim manager Markus Babbel has confirmed Ryan Babel is in talks with Fiorentina over a potential loan move to the Serie A club.
Babel has been told he can leave the Bundesliga side this summer after becoming surplus to requirements under manager Babbel, despite the winger having another 12 months left on his contract, with the option for a further year.
The Holland international, who arrived at Hoffenheim from Liverpool in January 2011, has also been linked with Greek side Olympiakos.
Babbel says the 25-year-old, who has scored five goals in 46 appearances for the German club, is in discussions with the Viola but does not know how the talks are progressing.
He told BILD: "I can confirm Ryan Babel has been talking to them (Fiorentina).
"He knows all about our ideas and plans regarding his situation at our club. But I do not know a thing about how his dealings with Fiorentina do progress.
"Should he be out to stay on with us, he will do so as he has a contract left."
