Aston Villa defender Richard Dunne is to carry on playing for Republic of Ireland.
Dunne has been considering his international future since Ireland's poor performance at Euro 2012.
But the 32-year-old has decided not to follow Damien Duff and Shay Given into retirement.
Giovanni Trapattoni and assistant Marco Tardelli held a meeting with the 32-year-old, who is currently recovering from a groin injury, on Saturday and were encouraged by what they heard.
A statement from the Football Association of Ireland read: "Giovanni Trapattoni and Marco Tardelli held a positive meeting with Richard Dunne.
"Richard reconfirmed that he will be available again for international duty once he makes a full recovery from injury."
Dunne will not feature in his country's opening World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan as he recovers from injury, but news of his continued commitment will come as a massive boost for Trapattoni.
