Watford have bolstered their ranks with the signing of veteran Italian defender Marco Cassetti on a year-long deal.

The 35-year-old was released by Roma at the end of last season after spending six seasons with the Italian club.

The right-back joined Roma after spells with Montichiari, Lumezzane, Verona and Lecce, who he left after relegation from Serie A in 2006.

While with Roma, Cassetti won the Coppa Italia twice and played in the UEFA Champions League, twice reaching the quarter-finals and playing in each of their group stage games two seasons ago.

But his chances of first-team matches last season were hurt by injury and coach Luis Enrique opted to release him.

He will bring a wealth of experience to Vicarage Road as Gianfranco Zola's Hornets aim to mount a push for promotion.
