Sunderland defender Carlos Cuellar praised their fans for inspiring his side's determined performance against Arsenal in their goalless draw.
Cuellar made his debut for his new team and produced an impressive display to help the Black Cats claim a point at the Emirates.
Arsenal's fluent attacking football had the Black Cats on the back foot for long periods, but the fervent support of the travelling Sunderland fans helped them maintain their focus.
"The result was very important and a reward for all the Sunderland fans there," he told the club's official website.
"I felt for a long time the game was very hard and when you feel the crowd behind you it makes you play better, it makes you stronger and they helped us a lot to get the point.
"Everyone, all the players, were working so hard to defend because it was the first game, we were probably a little bit tired from pre-season and it was really weird weather for England - it was very hot.
"I've never seen one day like that here. We worked together to defend and got the magic point."
