Yohan Benalouane will spend the 2012/13 campaign on loan at Parma, with Cesena announcing that an agreement has been reached.
The 25-year-old has made the step up into Serie A after suffering relegation out of the top flight last season.
He was among those to shine as Cesena slipped through the trapdoor and was expected to generate interest this summer.
Newcastle were among those reported to be keen on the French defender, but opted against making a move.
That has paved the way for Parma to snap Benalouane up on a season-long loan.
The deal includes the option for Parma to acquire a 50 per cent stake in his ownership rights next summer.
