Fulham manager keen for defender to sign new deal

Fulham manager Martin Jol is optimistic that Brede Hangeland will sign a new deal and extend his stay at Craven Cottage. Jol has had to deal with speculation surrounding the futures of several of his key players this summer, with Clint Dempsey apparently destined to leave and Moussa Dembele also attracting interest. Hangeland has just one year remaining on his current contract and his agent revealed earlier this week that he was 'not even close' to penning fresh terms. Jol admits it is a tricky situation and he is keen for the Norwegian to put an end to the uncertainty. Hangeland has been a commanding figure at the heart of Fulham's back four since being signed from FC Copenhagen by Roy Hodgson four years ago. "It's not easy," said Jol. "Hopefully he will make a decision for us and if not we have to try to cope with the situation, but hopefully Brede will sign his new contract."
