New recruit aims for first team place despite competition for places

Jack Rodwell wants to make an early impression after his move to Manchester City. Roberto Mancini has a wealth of talent at his disposal throughout his squad, but Rodwell wants to push for a place in the City midfield straight away. The 21-year-old moved to the Etihad Stadium after City and Everton agreed a deal thought to be in the region of £15million. "It is a great opportunity for me, joining the league champions. It is a chance to win things. It will be an exciting place to go, playing with amazing players," Rodwell said. "It is a great squad and we will see what happens. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity. "They won the league last year and I'm sure will look to improve on that, especially in the Champions League as well. "I am still young but I'm going to try and work my way into the set-up and find my feet early doors."

Injuries

Injury ended Rodwell's 2011/12 season in March, but he is confident about his readiness for the new season in his new surroundings. "I've had a lot of injuries, but I'm fit now and this is a great opportunity and I'm just so proud to be back involved," he added. "It was a recurring hamstring injury that took time to go away but I feel like it's over now. "I had to shelve hopes of going to the Euros but that is football, everyone gets injuries and you've got to move on."
