Tom Cleverley admits making his England debut in the win over Italy was a proud moment in his career.
The Manchester United midfielder impressed on his long-awaited debut for England as Roy Hodgson's men came from behind to win 2-1 in Berne.
Cleverley, who played in an attacking role behind the front man, hopes he has impressed Hodgson enough to keep his place in the squad ahead of the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers.
"It was a proud moment for me, a big occasion in any footballer's life," said Cleverley.
"I managed to get on the ball and hopefully impressed the manager."
Hodgson was full of praise for Cleverley's showing on his senior England debut.
"We know Tom is a great player," noted Hodgson. "He has been playing well for Team GB and it was great for him to make his England debut."
