Sky Sports understands Burton Albion are poised to sign former Southend striker Matt Paterson.
Paterson is available on a free transfer after leaving Southend earlier this summer.
The 22-year-old spent two spells out on loan last season after finding himself out of Paul Sturrock's plans and he has now departed Roots Hall after seeing out his contract.
Burton boss Gary Rowett is keen to bolster his attacking options and he has lined up a deal for former Southampton man Paterson.
Rowett is keen to tie up a deal in order to have Paterson available for this weekend's League Two opener with Rotherham.
