Sky Sports understands Brentford have failed in a move to sign Manchester City defender Ryan McGivern.
A number of clubs are thought to be chasing the Northern Ireland international with McGivern well down the pecking order at City.
McGivern had two spells on loan at Crystal Palace and Bristol City last season and Palace are thought to be keen on taking the full-back on loan again this season.
League One outfit Brentford are looking to bolster their defensive options and they made an enquiry to sign the left-back on a permanent deal.
However, Brentford were unable to agree a deal with City for the 22-year-old and McGivern also turned down the chance to go on loan to Griffin Park.
McGivern, who has made just one substitute's appearance in the Premier League for City, is expected to move on before the close of the transfer window to get some first-team action under his belt.
