David Moyes believes Everton will need to be patient with Steven Naismith, despite him scoring a hat-trick on Wednesday night.
The Scottish international, who joined the Toffees on a free transfer in July, netted three times in 30 minutes against AEK Athens at Goodison Park.
Moyes was pleased with Naismith's performance but the Everton boss was quick to say that the fans should not expect too much from a player who is still working his way back to fitness following a nine-month spell on the sidelines with a cruciate knee ligament injury.
Moyes told the club's official site: "He had a great opening and he's a player who's got a goal in him, we know that.
"Hopefully when we get him right - because you've got to remember he's missed nine months of football and we're not rushing things with him - hopefully we'll see a few more goals from him.
"In the end I think he'll be a good Everton player and we'll just need to give him time.
"I don't want people to think it'll happen overnight."
