New signing Fraser Fyvie is ready and excited to fight for his place at Wigan, despite only being at the club for just under a month.

Fyvie was Wigan's first signing of the summer when he moved from Aberdeen last month for a fee of £500,000.

Roberto Martinez' side face Chelsea in ten days on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, and Fyvie is willing to work hard to earn an opportunity within the team.

He told the club's official website: "I'm just trying to get my name in with the manager now because I want to be on that team sheet.

"Obviously the other midfielders in the squad have been playing in the Premier League for a few years now and have adapted to the style of football that the manager wants to play.

"They're all top players and some of them are even international players so I need to get myself up to their level to claim a first-team place for myself."

Wigan's pre-season campaign comes to a close this Sunday against Celta Vigo and Fyvie admits this summer has been an enjoyable one.

"I'm really enjoying it now I've had time to get to know everyone and all of the lads have been great to me," said Fyvie.

"It has been a good experience so far because we've been to another country to train which is always exciting and played against opposition from all over Europe which is a good test."
