Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Chris Lines is facing up to three months on the sidelines due to a groin injury.
Lines picked up the injury during last weekend's friendly against West Bromwich Albion and will now miss the start of the new season.
The 26-year-old made 47 appearances for the Owls last term following his arrival from Bristol Rovers and manager Dave Jones has challenged someone to take Lines' place.
"Chris is facing around eight to 12 weeks out," Jones told the club's official website.
"It's not great news but it's a lot better than what we thought it was on Saturday.
"What that does is open the door to someone else because somebody will take that shirt."
The Owls face Oldham Athletic in the Capital One Cup on Monday before travelling to Derby County for their first game back in the Championship on Saturday 18th August.
