St Patrick's Athletic's Europa League adventure was finished off by Hannover as Inter Milan survived a scare to advance to the final qualifying round.

Marseille and FC Twente made smooth progress to the next stage, but last season's runners-up Athletic Bilbao had to hang on to negotiate their passage onwards.

Irish side St Pat's were always going to be up against in their second leg against Hannover after a 3-0 defeat at home and followed that up with a 2-0 reverse in Germany.

Andre Ayew scored a goal in each half as Marseille cruised to a 3-0 home success over Eskisehirspor to go through 4-1 on aggregate.

Ayew netted either side of a 36th minute goal from Andre-Pierre Gignac, while Marseille played the final 15 minutes with 10 men after Benoit Cheyrou was sent off.

FC Twente are safely through after first-half goals from Nacer Chadli and Leroy Fer earned a 2-0 win at Mlada Boleslav and a 4-0 aggregate triumph.

Eredivisie rivals Heerenveen are also in the next round after a 1-0 defeat at Rapid Bucharest only led to a 4-1 aggregate scoreline.

However, fellow Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem bowed out of the competition after a 2-0 home defeat by big-spending Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala.

Samuel Eto'o scored three minutes after half-time before the former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker converted a late penalty to round off a 4-0 aggregate win.
