Crystal Palace manager Dougie Freedman has lined up loan deals from the Premier League after admitting Jose Baxter has given him a 'headache'.
Freedman is trying to strengthen his squad before the start of the new Championship season and Sky Sports understands Manchester City defender Ryan McGivern is a target for Palace.
Attack-minded players are also on Freedman's radar and the Palace chief hopes he will soon be able to improve his options.
"I can understand the fans' frustration for not signing one or two names, but we're on a strict budget and we try to stick to it," Freedman told the Croydon Advertiser.
"With the contacts I've got, there's one or two lined up. We'll be looking at attack-minded players from the Premier League.
"We're trying our hardest to bring players in, but it's not easy. The bigger clubs above us can blow you out of the water when it comes to money, but I just look for the right types and attitude.
"We done OK last season with the right types brought in and we're just looking for that. We're close, but it's not close until it's over the line."
Meanwhile, Freedman is still to make a decision on the future of Baxter after the former Everton forward spent the last few weeks training with Palace.
He added: "Jose's got quality but he's just got to work on his fitness and he's given me a headache.
"We've looked at the whole financial situation as well, but it's doing no harm for him (training with us)."
