Bundesliga outfit in the market for proven marksman

Werder Bremen general manager Klaus Allofs admits the club are in the market for an experienced frontman, as reports link them with Roque Santa Cruz. The Bundesliga outfit are also said to be keen on Wolfsburg's out-of-favour striker Srdan Lakic. Santa Cruz would appear to be a likely target, as he has returned to Manchester City following a spell on loan at Real Betis. He has just one year left to run on his contract at the Etihad Stadium and is well down the attacking pecking order with the Premier League champions. Lakic has also entered the final 12 months of his current deal and finds himself on the fringes of the first-team fold at Wolfsburg.

Qualities

Allofs has refused to reveal the identity of those in Bremen's thoughts, but admits the club need a striker with a proven track record. "There is definitely one striker we are looking at," he told Syker Kreiszeitung. "It's an experienced striker, one that has already shown his qualities. "We would not benefit if we just add one more striker for the sake of it. We need a good one that makes us a better team. "We do not need an 18-year-old. We have enough youngsters in the squad."
