Midfielder Simon Walton believes that Hartlepool will "hit the ground running" when the new campaign kicks off this weekend.
The summer signing from Plymouth has already impressed Pools fans with his dominant pre-season displays in the heart of midfield - as the team have gone unbeaten against a trio of higher division opponents.
And while Walton admits that results are not everything at this stage, he says that the belief can only grow after putting in strong performances against Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Hull.
"You want to get into the right habits during pre-season and at the moment we've got ourselves into a 'not getting beat' habit, against teams who are probably going to do well in their respective leagues," Walton told the club's official website.
"We've acquitted ourselves well, but we're not going to get carried away with that, though we can take a hell of a lot of confidence from it.
"Now we just want to get the nitty-gritty of the league started. I believe we can hit the ground running."
