Scots call for Fox

Southampton defender returns to squad

Danny Fox: Defender returns to Scotland squad after three year absence

Daniel Fox has been recalled to the Scotland squad for the friendly against Australia next week after a three-year absence.

The 26-year-old won his only cap in a 3-0 defeat to Wales in 2009 but has since been overlooked after moving from Celtic to Southampton.

He joins 19 other English based players in the 24-man squad, with only three who ply their trade in their home country making the cut.

Celtic duo Charlie Mulgrew and James Forrest along with Hearts defender Andy Webster are the only representatives with Craig Levein choosing to overlook Rangers defenders Lee Wallace and Kirk Broadfoot.

Jordan Rhodes looks set to earn a second cap, after making his debut in the friendly against Cyprus last November, whilst Jamie Mackie looks certain to start in attack with Kenny Miller ruled out after his move to Vancouver Whitecaps.

The game at Easter Road on 15th August will be Scotland's first meeting with the Socceroos for 12 years. On that occasion Australia ran out 2-0 winners at Hampden Park with goals from Brett Emerton and David Zdrilic.

Scotland squad in full:

Allan McGregor (Besiktas), Matt Gilks (Blackpool), David Marshall (Cardiff);
