Sky Sports understands midfielder Simon Gillett is set to sign a two-year deal at Nottingham Forest on a free transfer.
The 26-year-old is currently without a club after leaving Doncaster at the end of last season.
Forest manager Sean O'Driscoll is poised to make a move for the midfielder, who trained with the Championship club earlier this week, after working with him while in charge at Rovers.
Gillett began his career at Southampton and spent time at Walsall, Blackpool, Bournemouth and Yeovil on loan before O'Driscoll signed him at Doncaster in 2010.
