Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill is hopeful he will make additions to his squad before the start of the new season.

The Black Cats have only made one signing this summer with Carlos Cuellar arriving on a free transfer after he left Aston Villa.

Sunderland have had a bid for Wolves forward Steven Fletcher rejected and O'Neill refused to be drawn on his pursuit of the Scotland striker.

O'Neill admitted offers have been made for players, but he refused to name any of his targets.

Offers

"I couldn't start commenting on those things, all I can tell you is that we have made some offers for some players," O'Neill told Sky Sports News.

"We are in the throes of negotiations at the minute and there is not much more I can tell you really.

"I just don't think it would be the wisest thing in the world to start talking about other teams' players."
