Sky Sports understands Jason Roberts has signed a new deal at Reading that runs until 2014.
The 34-year-old striker joined the Royals in January on an 18-month deal and went on to score six goals in 17 games as they claimed the Championship title.
Manager Brian McDermott wants to retain the experience of the Grenada international, whose influence both on and off the pitch, impressed the Royals chief.
Reading hope the partnership of Roberts and Pavel Pogrebnyak can help them retain their Premier League status on their return to the top-flight.
Roberts becomes the second Royals player to sign a new deal after the newly-promoted club announced goalkeeper Adam Federici had signed a new three-year deal earlier this week.
