Sky Sports understands Bristol City are in talks to sign Derby County striker Steve Davies.
Davies is on the transfer list at Derby as he seeks a move away from Pride Park for family reasons.
Derby are resigned to losing last season's top scorer and they are open to offers for the 24-year-old.
Ipswich have expressed an interest in Davies, but Portman Road boss Paul Jewell has revealed they cannot agree a fee with Derby for the player.
Blackburn are also thought to be keen on the former Tranmere man, but Bristol City are keen to steal a march on their Championship rivals by luring Davies to Ashton Gate.
Robins boss Derek McInnes is keen to bolster his attacking options and is hoping to persuade Davies to make the move to Bristol.
