Aberdeen manager Craig Brown has confirmed he is likely to offer experienced full-back Gary Naysmith a contract until the end of the year.
Naysmith has been training with the Dons after leaving Huddersfield Town and has confirmed his priority is to sign a contract at Pittodrie.
The 33-year-old is looking to return to the SPL and has been offered the incentive of proving he will be worth a deal for the full season.
Brown cited the example of Stephen Hughes, who is also under contract until January, as he prepares to hold talks with Naysmith.
"I'm interested in a short-term deal for Gary but he can play for a longer one," said Brown.
"You just have to look at Hughes. He was playing out of his skin in Germany.
"I hope Gary expects the deal but we'll have to see what his expectations are."
