German club weighing up new deal for midfielder

Stuttgart director Jochen Schneider says the club are considering offering midfielder Christian Gentner a new deal. The 26-year-old, who scored five goals in 28 league games last season, is out of contract at the Bundesliga club next summer. Schneider says Stuttgart could offer him a fresh deal but only when the time is right. He told kicker-Sportmagazin: "Christian Gentner is under contract with our club. "We are feeling fine with him being part of our club and he likes being part of our club, too. Talks over a new deal could start at an appropriate time." Gentner, who re-joined the club from Wolfsburg in 2010 after leaving three years earlier, added: "I am actually fully focused on pre-season. I like to grab a first-team role. "I am under contract at VfB Stuttgart and I like it. From my point of view there is no need to hurry into a new deal."
