Sky Sports understands Preston are weighing up a move for former Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton striker Akpo Sodje.
Sodje is a free agent after leaving Chinese Super League side Tianjin Teda earlier this month.
The 32-year-old has now linked up with Preston for pre-season training as he looks to try and win a deal at Deepdale.
North End boss Graham Westley will cast an eye over Sodje in training and possibly in a friendly before deciding whether or not to pursue his interest in the forward.
A number of foreign clubs are also thought to be keen, with the player weighing up his options as he decides where next to continue his career.
