Bristol City manager Derek McInnes has confirmed he is in talks to sign Tom Heaton and is hoping to finalise a deal for the goalkeeper.
Sky Sports revealed earlier this week that the Robins are now leading the chase to sign Heaton on a free transfer following his departure from Cardiff City.
A move to Watford earlier this summer fell through following the Pozzo family's takeover at Vicarage Road, while Blackburn Rovers, Charlton Athletic and Sheffield Wednesday are also keeping tabs on his situation.
However, Heaton spent time training with McInnes' squad on a pre-season trip to Marbella and is now discussing a deal at Ashton Gate.
"We are in discussions with Tom and his representatives," said McInnes in the Bristol Evening Post.
"He has been with us for around ten days now, a few days in Bristol before coming to Spain with us.
"There could be a deal to be done, but there is nothing further at this stage."
