Arsene Wenger: The Arsenal manager is repeatedly being linked with Loic Remy and Yann M'Vila

Arsene Wenger insisted Arsenal are not close to signing any additional new players after watching his side overcome a Malaysia XI on Tuesday afternoon.

The Gunners boss has this summer already brought in Germany international Lukas Podolski and France striker Olivier Giroud for a combined fee of more than £20million.

But, with a clear gulf in class to Manchester City and Manchester United, Wenger is continuing to be linked with further moves to strengthen his squad.

Marseille striker Loic Remy, Rennes midfielder Yann M'Vila and Spain winger Santi Cazorla have long been reported as targets, however, Arsenal's manager has maintained his stance that no moves are imminent.

After seeing the Gunners come from a goal down against the Malaysia XI and asked if he was close to any deals, Wenger seemingly joked: "No. Maybe we will sign a Malaysian player?"

Late goals from Thomas Eisfeld and Chuks Aneke secured victory for Arsenal in the opening game of their pre-season tour in Bukit Jalil after Mohamad Azmi Muslim's spectacular strike had threatened an upset.

Wenger made 10 changes at half-time in the friendly and among those introduced at the interval were England internationals Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott.

But winger Walcott, who has revealed he is in ongoing talks regarding a new contract, was then taken off in the 80th minute.

Wenger, though, has no major concerns about the former Southampton player's fitness, as he said: "He is one of the players who had two days' training.

"I had planned to give him 25 minutes and in the end I feel he suffered a bit more than (Alex) Oxlade-Chamberlain. That's why I chose to take him off."
