Michael Laudrup believes it is impossible to say Joe Allen will still be at Swansea next season until he has spoken to the player.
Allen is the subject of interest from Liverpool and the chance to link up with former boss Brendan Rodgers would surely be an attractive one for the Welsh midfielder.
And new Swans manager Laudrup admits he does not know whether the 22-year-old will be staying at the Liberty Stadium - not least because he is currently on Olympic duty with Team GB.
"You can't say yes or no without having spoken to the player," Laudrup told Sky Sports.
"You have to know always what does the player want.
"If he says 'No I want to stay, I'm so happy here' then he stays. But of course if we get a very big offer and the player wants to leave, what means is there to keep him here?
"So the most important thing is always the player.
"He's a guy from here and very respected but let's talk to him.
"Of course, we can't do it now because he's with the Olympic squad so we'll have to wait.
"Until now there is nothing concrete but if there does come an important offer then we will have to talk to the player."
